Research Interests:
Evolutionary Psychology; History of Psychology; Psychology and popular culture; Neural plasticity (how the brain changes with experience).

Teaching Interests:
Biopsychology, Learning & Memory, Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology, Writing in Psychology.

Dr. Gramlich has been at Xavier ever since he obtained his PhD from the University of Arkansas in 1986. His degree is in Experimental Psychology with a specialization in Physiological Psychology. Charles served as chair of the department several times between 1988 and 2002. He was instrumental in developing the Psychology Pre-medical program for the department. He currently serves as chair of the Xavier University IRB, the committee that reviews all research using human participants at Xavier.

Other Interests
Outside of psychology, Charles has interests in fiction writing, especially in the areas of science fiction, fantasy, & thrillers. He has numerous novels and collections of his work published, including the novels Cold in the Light and Swords of Talera, the novella Under the Ember Star, and single author anthologies like Bitter Steel and In the Language of Scorpions.
