The diversity and flexibility of Xavier’s sociology program leads our graduate in a remarkable number of directions. With your goals and the foundation and support we offer, a sociology degree can get you anywhere you want to go. Below are just a few examples of how our graduates have linked their undergraduate training career or graduate school choices.

Antanious White ‘15

Antanious graduated with a major in sociology and a minor in theology. While at Xavier he was a McNair Scholar and Sociology Club President. He also interned and did independent research. Following graduation, he taught high school for a year.  He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. at Tulane University in the City, Community, and Culture Program with a concentration in Sociology.

Folsade Wilson Anumudu ’14 (HMS concentration)

Sade earned a B.A. in Sociology with the Health, Medicine, and Society concentration along with a minor in Public Health. At Xavier, she did presented her research at a conference in Boston. She also completed an internship at Sankofa CDC, where she worked on projects to improve healthy food supplies to communities. Following graduation, Sade researched social determinants of health before earning a Master of Public Health from the University of California Berkeley's School of Public Health.  She traveled to Kenya as a 2016 Research Fellow for UC Berkeley's Center for Global Public Health.

Julien Grayer ‘13

Julien earned a Master’s degree in Criminology at University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was awarded a fellowship at University of Missouri, where he is working on his Ph.D. and teaching sociology. While at Xavier he did extensive research on geographic patterns of gun ownership, which he presented during his senior year. Julien also studied Japanese and did a minor in political science while at Xavier.

Marquisha Johns ‘13

Marquisha earned a double degree is Sociology (B.A.) and Chemistry (B.S.). While at Xavier, she did both undergraduate research and an internship at the New Orleans Department of Public Health. Upon graduation she was accepted into all seven Public Health graduate programs to which she applied and was offered several different funding packages. She earned her Master of Public Health from St. Louis University in 2015. She is now the strategic Planning Manager for the St. Louis Regional Health Commission.

Makeda Roberts ’13 (HMS concentration)

Following a year working as a research assistant on a project funded by National Institutes of Health, Makeda began a Ph.D. program in Sociology at Georgia State University. While a sociology major at Xavier, Makeda completed internships and presented her research at the Mid-South Sociological Conference. One of her projects, completed with professors and a fellow HMS student, was published in Health Sociology Review, a peer-reviewed journal.

Erin Fairley ‘10

Erin graduated with a major in sociology and a minor in pre-law. While at Xavier she completed an internship with the legal team at Louisiana Center for Children’s rights. She went on to complete a Master’s in Criminal Justice at Loyola University of New Orleans. She currently works in the narcotics unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in her hometown in Califorinia
